The Dante Alighieri Society was formed in 1889 by a group of Italian intellectuals under the leadership of the poet and Nobel Laureate Giosuè Carducci.
Our mission is to protect and promote the Italian language and culture throughout the world, strengthening the spiritual bonds of Italians living abroad with their motherland, and nurturing knowledge and appreciation for Italian culture in people from other countries.
To fulfill its mission, Dante Alighieri Society relies on the enthusiastic and generous support of some 500 Committees or local branches, more than 400 of which are located outside of Italy, throughout the world.
